This presentation will showcase our experience as a lawyer/social worker team who have to give bad news to incarcerated clients on a regular basis. Leaving an incarcerated client with no tools to alleviate the stress and anxiety our visit has created makes the experience that much more difficult for everyone. Over the years, we've developed some approaches that seem to be successful in helping clients who suffer from the effects of incarceration and bad news. We will suggest a couple of techniques that we use with clients including simple breathing exercises. We'll be looking for other ideas as we brainstorm with participants about their own experiences and ideas.
