Strategic planning forces busy defenders to stop and carefully consider the mission and goals of their organization. It also encourages an honest assessment of whether you and your staff are meeting those goals and gives the opportunity to be creative and aspirational in formulating a road map for improvements. This workshop will take you through Connecticut’s process of strategic planning subsequent to a change in leadership and an ongoing budget crisis. We will discuss how the team was assembled and give a detailed outline of our process. Benefits of strategic planning include facilitating difficult conversations on race and focusing on building shared priorities. Specific examples of how the strategic plan has guided the operation of our organization over the last 18 months will be shared, including how a hiring and staff development plan emerged from the process.
