Courtney is a supervising attorney in the Criminal Defense Practice at The Bronx Defenders. In that role she directly supervises and trains attorneys new to the public defense world. Courtney began her career working as a staff attorney with Brooklyn Defender Services. After leaving that position, she began working as an assistant public defender with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, where she represented individuals charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses in Charles County, Maryland. She also volunteered her time to coach the mock trial team at UDC David A. Clarke School of Law. Courtney graduated from UDC, David A. Clarke School of Law, where she advocated as a student attorney for the special education rights of juveniles and adults in the criminal justice system as well as for parents accused of child abuse or neglect. Courtney has a longstanding passion and commitment to public defense.
