Elia Johnson

Elia Johnson is the client services director at the Office of the Appellate Defender (OAD), where she manages the Client Services Program, which assist OAD clients with all non-legal issues including conditions of confinement and reentry concerns. Before joining OAD, Elia was a social worker in the Adolescent Practice at Brooklyn Defender Services, where she worked with young people ages 14-21 charged with felonies. She has experience advocating for improved conditions in New York State prisons at the Correctional Association of New York as a project associate, and she has experience working with individuals who have a serious mental health issue and multiple contacts with the criminal justice system at the New York State Psychiatric Institute as a research assistant. Elia is a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State and holds a Master of Science in Social Work Degree from the Columbia School of Social Work (2014) and a B.A. in Psychology from Barnard College (2010). Elia is also SIFI certified and enjoys supervising and training the next generation of forensic social workers.
